Why Corvo Labs? Our Founding Story

Most teams don't fail from lack of talent. They fail from learning too slowly.

This really hits home when you see some of the most talented people with failed projects or companies.

This is the core problem Corvo Labs exists to solve. We help teams move from uncertainty to clarity, and get there fast.

Why "Corvo"?

Crows are awesome. Crows are corvids. Corvo is Portuguese and Italian for corvid. But really, it's all about the crows.

Crows and ravens are remarkable creatures. They've been observed solving complex, multi-step puzzles faster than human children[1]. They build and modify tools—improving their designs across generations[2]. They remember human faces for years and share knowledge about threats with other crows across vast distances and generations[3].

Other birds use tools too. The woodpecker finch pries insects from bark with twigs[4]. Egyptian vultures crack open eggs with stones[5]. Green herons drop bait to lure fish[6]. But corvids stand apart for their problem-solving sophistication and their ingenuity—extending their capabilities through tools.

This is one of the key ideas behind Corvo Labs: using tools to extend what humans can do. AI has been a powerful leverage point for human creativity and exceptionalism. We use AI to supplement and extend human capability, not replace it.

What Corvo Labs Does

We're a product consultancy with a specialty in AI-enablement and healthcare technology. Our focus is on fixed-term projects with success clearly defined at the start. We bring focus and direction to uncertainty, helping you de-risk your next move.

Our clients fall into two main categories:

Technology startups — pre-product-market fit, or in the middle of refining product-market fit. We help you define, prioritize, and test hypotheses so you can move forward with confidence and significantly reduced risk.

Healthcare delivery organizations — looking to understand their business, standardize operations, and identify efficiency opportunities in anticipation of scaling. We map your workflows, build the documentation your team needs, and help you see where automation and AI can make the biggest impact.

Both types of clients share the same need: clarity under uncertainty.

We're AI Optimists but not Pollyanna-ish

There are myriad Pandora's boxes opened with the widespread use of AI in recent years, and we'll dive into those much deeper in future articles. A teaser of a couple of those topics: AI's threat to skill development in the entry-level workforce, and how AI accelerates the achievement and wealth gaps between the haves and have-nots.

Let us know what other topics you'd like to hear about, and we'll dig in together.

Ready to Move Forward?

If you fit either of those profiles—or could simply use help with design, user research, prototyping, or prioritization—book a consultation and we'll start talking.

For all our clients, all our engagements end where you're empowered with the tools and data to continue yourself. The value compounds long after we're gone. You're never dependent on Corvo Labs for the work to keep working.

Postscript:

A fun anecdote about Corvo Labs: once I landed on the name, the first thing I did was sketch ideas for the logo. I wanted imperfections—something hand-drawn. I spent over a week wrestling with design software to convert that sketch into an SVG. Ultimately, humanity came through. A designer smoothed some rough edges while keeping my fingerprint intact.
